The Bell (Dementia) Program
This program has been designed to provide activities for people who have Dementia and to give their carers quality periods of respite. The Bell (Dementia) Program operates Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, covering the Campbelltown LGA. The Outreach (Dementia) Program operates in the Camden and Wollondilly areas on Wednesday and Thursday. Programs are run from rented premises in the Camden and Wollondilly areas. The number of days members attend per week is dependent on the needs of the carer or member and our ability to offer respite. The number attending each day depends on the level of dementia of those participating and the ability of trained staff and volunteers to support those attending.
Our Coordinator and Assistants are very experienced in dealing with people who have Dementia and can provide advice and information to each carer. A booklet is available to assist carers as circumstances change. People with dementia living in the Appin and Menangle areas also participate in this program at Ingleburn.
Myrtle Cottage provides a door to door transport service for all participants attending our programs. Our fleet consists of six fully modified buses with hoists for people in wheelchairs or those unable to enter via the steps as well as rails and specially adapted steps to allow the most independent access for all participants.
Our dedicated staff members provide a transport service that is punctual with a flexible pick up schedule.
Volunteer drivers are an integral part of the Cottage’s operation. Without the giving of their time, expertise and skills, we would not be able to pick up all members for our various programs.
Members pay a Daily Subscription Fee of $10.00 for each attendance and any outing cost. The daily subscription cost covers transport to and from the Cottage, craft supplies, Morning tea and a mid-day meal and it helps cover the operating costs.
Usually outing costs are determined by the venue, with only the actual cost incurred e.g. Meal at a club, entry fee being charged, etc. Carers can apply for Membership of the organisation.
Outings are provided every six weeks and include visits to many local and regional places of interest, appropriate for persons with dementia.
