• What We Do

    Diversional Therapy Program

The program offers activities at our purpose built centre giving participants the opportunity to socialise with people their own age/interest. The Aged & Disability Coordinator, assisted by staff and a team of volunteers, coordinates this program for members who are:

    • Frail aged and/or with a disability attending Monday to Friday with groups of up to 40 members per day.
    • Young people with a disability aged between 18-65 years attending on a Wednesday. Members of this Wednesday may also like to participate in a Recreation program – refer to information about the Recreation Program – Wanderers Group.

Activities at the Cottage are arranged in consultation with the members and vary from day to day. An activity program is distributed every 6 weeks. Activities include craft activities, small interest groups e.g. cards, outings, guest speakers, games and quizzes.

Outings are provided every sixth week and include visits to many local and regional places of interest. Where an admission fee or other expenditure is involved, members will be advised of the cost. If members agree to participate they will contribute that cost in addition to the daily subscription fee.

When a volunteer attends outings to assist the members, all out of pocket expenses will be paid by Myrtle Cottage within reason.

    Transport

Myrtle Cottage provides a door to door transport service for all participants attending our programs. Our fleet consists of six fully modified buses with hoists for people in wheelchairs or those unable to enter via the steps as well as rails and specially adapted steps to allow the most independent access for all participants.

Our dedicated staff members provide a transport service that is punctual with a flexible pick up schedule.

Volunteer drivers are an integral part of the Cottage’s operation. Without the giving of their time, expertise and skills, we would not be able to pick up all members for our various programs.

    Subscriptions

Members pay a Daily Subscription Fee of $10.00 for each attendance and any outing cost. The daily subscription cost covers transport to and from the Cottage, craft supplies, morning tea and a mid-day meal and it helps cover the operating costs.

Usually outing costs are determined by the venue, with only the actual cost incurred e.g. Meal at a club, entry fee being charged, etc. In addition there is an annual Membership fee of $5.00. Volunteers should note that they are NOT required to pay this fee.
