• What We Do

    Diversional Therapy Program

The program offers activities at our purpose built centre giving participants the opportunity to socialise with people their own age or interest. The Aged & Disability Coordinator, assisted by staff and a team of volunteers, coordinates this program for members who are:

    • Frail aged and/or with a disability attending Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with groups of up to 40 members per day.
    • People aged 18-65 with a disability attend on a Wednesday. Members of this Wednesday may also like to participate in a Recreation program – refer to information about the Recreation Program – Wanderers Group.

Activities at the Cottage are arranged in consultation with the members and vary from day to day. An activity program is distributed every 6 weeks. Activities include craft activities, small interest groups e.g. cards, outings, guest speakers, games and quizzes.

Outings are provided every sixth week and include visits to many local and regional places of interest. Where an admission fee or other expenditure is involved, members will be advised of the cost. If members agree to participate they will contribute that cost in addition to the daily subscription fee.

When a volunteer attends outings to assist the members, all out of pocket expenses will be paid by Myrtle Cottage within reason.

    Costs

The Annual Financial Membership Fee for members is $5.00 (not payable by volunteers or life members) and gives each individual the right to have a say in the affairs of the Cottage. There is a client contribution fee payable for each day of attendance and costs associated with outings.

Any member who is genuinely unable to contribute towards the costs of attending any Program activity is asked to see the Manager, who will make special arrangements to ensure the member can participate in the program.
